JANUARY
14th

Sunday
14th January...and the weather could not have been better for us to welcome
the Right Rev'd James Jones, the Bishop of Liverpool, to St Thomas's.
He led our service and at the end oversaw the launch of 700 balloons into
the Up Holland sky, representing one balloon for each year in the life
of the priory church.

Each
of the balloons had written on it the phrase 'Jesus Christ
- the same yesterday, today and forever'.As the photo shows,
it was a fantastically colourful event and a great way to start our year
of festivities.

JANUARY
21st
Canon Michael
Wolfe was the first of our former clergy to do a sermon - and what a delight
it was...it turned out to be a review of Up Holland churches' social history
in 20 minutes! He had kindly provided a paper copy of his sermon, a transcript
of which will appear on the website shortly. In the meantime here is the
man himself taking a break from greeting the congregation between the
10am and 11.30am services....

Preview
of memorabilia
Also on 21st we saw the launch of some limited edition memorabilia
made by Wedgwood to commemorate the 700th Anniversary. As you can see
from the photo below, there was great interest in the items, which include
commemorative plates and even a model monk!

SATURDAY
27th JANUARY - FAMILY DISCO
Around 90 people attended the family disco held at St Teresa's
Social Club - not bad for the first attempt at this event! It was not
intended as a fundraising evening, but still manage to raise £212.37.

Everyone had a really enjoyable evening and were intent on telling others
what a good evening they'd missed out on. Ade Leahy's disco was excellent,
having just the right balance of music and the food was provided in the
form of a 'faith buffet', which means that everyone brought a little something
to contribute to the buffet. It was also a great opportunity to celebrate
Matt Garner's 18th birthday (see above).
There will be another one planned in the future, so watch this space....
