14-15th JUNE: WILLPOWER YOUTH THEATRE
"A LOCAL TALE"
About
Willpower Youth Theatre - Caroline Joynt and Tim Smith were working in
Theatre in Education, touring in local schools and frequently
asked by pupils where they could do drama outside school. As a response
to this, Caroline and Tim started a series of Summer Schools in Wigan,
which then developed into regular weekly classes for children from 6 -
18 years.
"Our sessions are quite relaxed," says Caroline. "We include
teaching the formal techniques such as stagecraft and voice projection
but we try to get the children involved in actually performing as soon
as possible."
Caroline and Tim were also both successful actors in their own right before
founding Willpower and still pursue careers in the business. Tim is a
professional musician and Caroline has her own actors agency, Intercity
Casting. It's through this that Caroline has brought many young Wigan
actors to our television screens.

It was a GREAT pleasure and privilege to have Willpower performing their
premier production of "A Local Tale" on Thursday June 14th &
Friday June 15th 2007. It was specially written to celebrate our 700th
Anniversary - watch this space for a review very soon.

JUNE
17th: REV'D PAUL ROBINSON - VISITING PREACHER
This
was the fourth in the Anniversary series of past clergy visiting us to
preach.

Paul still
keeps smiling despite having to get to St Thomas's for 7.30am!
Paul
(or 'Revrob' as he was known by The Crusaders) was clearly delighted to
be back in Up Holland. Paul joined for his spell as Curate at Up Holland
in 1997 and shared with us his nervousness about moving into the Curate's
residence in Beacon View Drive just before being ordained. He was instrumental
in building and supporting the Crusader Group will still exists today,
although, as he remarked, "some of that first group can now legally
drive, and one of them is even married!"
The day's Gospel was very appropriately about 'welcome' and he recalled
how welcome he was made to feel, and was delighted to see so many faces
he did not recognise - a reflection of how the community of St Thomas's
continues to grow. Finally, we could not leave out his thoughts that so
many people had not changed in looks over the years...although he had
suspected our very own Archdeacon might have visited the botox clinic!!
The large turnout at all our services, especially from our younger members,
was a great testimony to how well respected Paul was. He is now Vicar
at St Thomas The Apostle, Downholland, near Maghull.
