17th MARCH - ANNIVERSARY COLLAGE LAUNCH
A special
party was held in church on the afternoon to celebrate the many years'
work that has gone into each of the superb pieces to make up the collage
that adorns the wall on the North side of the church.
Each part of the tapestry has its own story to tell, and a written piece
and individual photo of each piece of work will appear shortly on the
site. In the mean time you can do one of two things:
(a) get a feel for the work in the photos below, but more importantly...
(b) go and see them close up in church, as they deserve it!
Well done to Liz Heyes and everyone who has helped put it together.
..and
here's Liz Heyes who has made it all happen...

...and
the cake they all scoffed at the celebration party!!

SUNDAY
18th MARCH - MOTHERING SUNDAY SERVICE WITH THE COVERDALE PUPPETS

Our
Mothering sunday service saw the usual St Thomas's celebration....all
the local uniformed organisations with their banners, the Dare To Be Different
Band playing, cards available to give to Mums of all ages....but one extra
treat was arranged to celebrate our 700th Anniversary - the Coverdale
Puppets!
They treated us to a great mixture of songs, dancing puppets and a great
story called 'Pig Sick'. This was a puppet sketch based on the parable
of The Prodigal Son and had all ages laughing.
A big thanks to Ian and Elaine (the humans pictured above!) for making
our service so special.

WEDNESDAY
28th MARCH - ANNIVERSARY LUNCH
This event, which was held at St teresa's Catholic Club, was extremely
well attended and a great time was had by all, as you can see from the
following photos. The buffet was superb -Doreen, Betty, Ruth, Joan, Kath
and all those who helped in any way really do deserve a mention and a
big Thank You, not just for the day itself but for all the hard work that
went on before hand.
Entertainment was provided by Barry McQueen, the Town Crier of Blackpool.
he had everyone joining in and singing along, as well as telling some
great jokes! Not only that, but the event helped raise over £1,500.
Well done everyone.

SATURDAY
31st MARCH - NIGEL OGDEN: 'THE ORGANIST ENTERTAINS'
Nigel Ogden sat at the superb St Thomas The Martyr
church organ console
Yes, you are right! Nigel Ogden, host of the very popular BBC Radio 2
programme played live at St Thomas's as part of the 700th Anniversary.
This was the second of the season of live music concerts to celebrate
the 700th Anniversary.
The church was absolutely packed out for this fantastic concert. Nigel
has recorded over 1200 programmes for BBC Radio 2, and treated the audience
to a varied programme of music ranging from the 'Can-Can' to 'The Dambusters
March' with various stops inbetween. A great idea was to have a projection
of his hands shown on a screen at the front of church whilst he was playing
- this was requested by Nigel from his own experience, as some people
have accused him of miming in the past because he is so good! Not only
did the audience enjoy it, but so did he, and he hopes to come back at
some stage in the future.
For details about future concerts, keep an eye on the 2007
Events page by clicking here. Tickets for future events will be on
sale after each Sunday service or send details (inc. return address) &
cheque payable to 'Up Holland Parish Church'.Post to Sue Swailes, Dell
Cottage, St Helens Road, ORMSKIRK. L39 9EA.
