St Thomas The Martyr Parish Church
Up Holland, Lancashire
BENEDICTINE WEEK
The Benedictine Week is a very special event in the year of St Thomas The Martyr. It is a week where the church is 'dressed up' to recreate the times and environment of when our parish church was a monastery. Lots of displays are placed around church to demonstrate what life was like in the times of the priory.
Local primary schools bring parties of children down to learn about our local medieval history. They get to do a special quiz, learn about what the life of a monk was like, and...most importantly...get to dress up as monks! Volunteers from our church members also dress up to recreate the old times and give the children guided tours. This truly is a special time for the children and one that they always remember.
Below you will find a selection of photos from the 2007 event. The exhibition happens every July and is open to all. Watch the News page for details of the next one.
