HOLLAND PAGEANT 2007: THE PREPARATION |
||||
| The trusty gang of volunteers turned up at the festival arena (also known as St Thomas The Martyr CE School Playing Fields and Playground!) at 8.30am to set up the stalls, ready for the stallholders to turn up at 10am. The previous few days had seen torrential rain in the Up Holland area, and many prayers had been said by many people overnight to help keep the day dry....and whilst it was cloudy for most of the day, we only saw a very light shower during the set up in the morning. The rest of the day was dry! Here are some of the shots from the morning's preparation.... |

| One of the chief organisers, David Durham, is a little concerned that he is going to have to set up the stalls all by himself. Little did he know that the stall posse was just round the corner... | John Fitzgerald, co-ordinator of the Up Holland Crusaders float, called in to the Parish Rooms to collect the dalek that had been found wandering around Hall Green only the day before! | |||

| Our Ladies of the Lourdes Association were probably the first to have completed set up of their bric-a-brac stall. Time to enjoy a nice cup of tea. | The ladies from Up Holland Youth Group were well covered in case of rain in their marquee. They had set up a very colurful display which was to be popular throughout the day. | |||

| Sue Swailes and her trusty Traidcraft food stall team did great business throughout the day. | The volume of sweets on the sweet stall was pushing the table into the wet grass! However the weight was soon to be relieved by the purchasing power of the children of Up Holland! | |||

| And so to indoors, and the St Thomas The Martyr Church cakestall. They had hundreds of cakes donated by parishioners, but still managed to sell out before the end. Well done ladies! | A quick break from the setting up. Val and John Gardner, and Craig Heaton, Headteacher of St Thomas the Martyr CE Primary School. | |||

| Meanwhile down at Darfield, the Up Holland Crusaders had been working hard on their float and were ready to 'travel through time'! | But what about the St Thomas The Martyr Church float? It looked like the recreation of the assasination of Thomas a Becket was being taken a little too seriously in the rehearsals. | |||

| More detail of the Crusaders' time travelling float: this side depicts the main industries of Up Holland over the centuries - mining, farming and priory life.... | ...and this side shows the church, what was 'The Lyric' on Parliament Street (now M&D Supplies), the Lost Highwayman's grave and an old Up Holland mine | |||
