SERVERS' GUILD

This page will feature some of the history of our Servers' Guild. To start with, see below for this month's newsletters.

MARCH 2007

The 2007 Guild Day on 18 February 2007 saw the return of Revd. Barry Whitehead, sometime Assistant Curate in this Parish. He recalled how things were during his time in Up Holland and commented on things which were the same and things which had changed. He made a particular point about way in which Lent is now observed, or more precisely seemed to regret the lack of observation of the season of Lent in these times. It was, therefore, appropriate that our Rector issued a very demanding Lenten Challenge to the Guild of Servers on Ash Wednesday.

The Rector’s Lenten Challenge

As we celebrate our 700th Anniversary this year’s Lenten Challenge is a bit more demanding! It is designed to help us give time during Lent to look at and pray about the work of the Guild of Servers, to learn more about the Church, the faith we share and ourselves.

1. Write a prayer for the Guild of Servers

2. Think of something we find difficult to do and resolve to do it during Lent

3. Keep a diary of the Sermons in Church during Lent

4. Learn something new about the Church building

5. Learn something new about a member of the Congregation

6. Attend church once every week during Lent

7. Bring a friend to church on Mothering Sunday

8. Write in your Lenten diary something you have done during Lent which you found difficult

9. What, if anything, have you enjoyed about Lent?

The Lenten Challenge asks us to write a prayer for the Guild of Servers. It may help you to remember that our Bishop said prayer could be divided into four parts based on the word ACTS as set out in the February Newsletter.

Adoration - To speak words of adoration to Almighty God.

Confession - To look at our lives, consider how we could have done better and to be sorry for things we have done badly.

Thanksgiving - To give thanks to God for all his loving kindness.

Supplication - To ask God for something for others and something for ourselves

The next Guild Day: Guild Day 05 April 2007 Maundy Thursday
All Servers are asked to robe. Servers will read the Epistle, Intercede and read the dramatised version of the Gospel. The Lenten Challenge is concluded.
